Vision Statement:

We the members of the Summit Congregational United Church of Christ seek, first and foremost, to live out the message of Jesus Christ in both our words and in our actions. Being led by the Holy Spirit, we invite others to join us as we endeavor to respond to God’s vision of a world where all people experience love, justice, and peace.

Our Covenant:

As the membership of the Summit Congregational United Church of Christ, we do solemnly covenant and affirm that we are called to live in a loving, covenantal relationship with all humanity.  We further assert that we embrace diversity in our congregation and community and affirm the dignity and worth of each person as a unique creation made in the image of God.  We honor as the most basic of our founding principles that discrimination, in any form, is incompatible with Christ’s Gospel message of unconditional love.  We recognize and accept the responsibility given to us by God, to care for one another, to hold in prayer this church and the church universal, and to seek equality and justice, love, and peace in all our relationships.

Polity

The Summit Congregational United Church of Christ acknowledges as its sole head, Jesus Christ, Son of God, our Lord and Savior. It seeks divine revelation in the Word of God and in the presence and power of the Risen and Living Christ, made known to us through the Holy Spirit. It claims, as its own, the faith of the historic Church expressed in the ancient creeds and reclaimed through the basic insights of the Protestant Reformers. It affirms the responsibility of the church, from generation to generation, to make its faith known in the reality of worship, in the act of prayer, in honesty of thought and expression, and in purity of heart before God. In accordance with the teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ and the tradition of the Protestant church, it recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. It decrees that the government of this church shall be vested in its members, who exercise control in all affairs. It accepts that while self-governing, it is in a covenantal relationship with the United Church of Christ, including its fellow Local Churches, Associations, Conferences, and General Synod.
