"Souper" Bowl Sunday
February 12, 2023

Corresponding with Super Bowl Sunday is the “Souper” Bowl Sunday.  While many of us will be feasting on chili, pizza, vegetable trays, and various other foods while we watch the Super Bowl game between Philadelphia Eagles, and the Kansas City Chiefs, there are still many in this city who go hungry and are malnourished.
This is an opportunity for us to live out the scripture from Matthew 25 which states “When I was hungry you gave me to eat.” From now through February 12th, we will be collecting crackers and cans of soup, any other non-perishable foods and cash to be donated to the Dubuque Food Pantry.  You can bring in your donation in before or after worship on Sundays through February 12th,
on Mondays through February 6th,
or call and set up a time to drop it off.
As we provide nourishment for hungry bodies, may it also nourish souls that hunger and thirst for righteousness.
Let us make the Dubuque Food Pantry and those they serve the real winners of the “Souper” Bowl.

Visiting Summit:

Summit is a  small congregation of around 100 members, 50 of whom attend the Sunday  service.  While many members are older, there are some young families. People  wear what's comfortable for them.

There is plenty of parking and  the main entrance is the one with the canopy (where you may drop people off in  bad weather or if they need assistance).
Someone will greet you at the  door.  The worship space is to the right, and the restrooms are to the  left.

Visitors are always welcomed warmly.  You are invited  to contact us if you'd like more information before attending for a first  time.

Email the church with any questions or  comments.

Christmas Ponderings
and a Prayer

I have many favorite Christmas hymns and carols,
but there is one which I have no trouble singing year round and that is “Joy to the World”.
I say that because its words invite us
to receive our “King” and to
make room in our hearts to receive Christ.
It cries out to no longer let sins and sorrows grow.
It also proclaims that Christ came
to make God’s blessings flow.

Christmas reminds us all of God’s great love for us
and desires for all of creation.
Oh, what light would shine forth in the darkness
and blessings would flow into all the earth
if everyone would prepare more and more room
for Christ to reign in their hearts.

The third verse of O Little Town of Bethlehem says
"How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is given
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of His heaven
No ear may hear His coming but in this world of sin
Where meek souls will receive him still
the dear Christ enters in."

God help us to open our hearts more fully to you
each and every day so that
Christ’s light and
blessings
will flow to us and through us abundantly,
not only for this season,

but throughout the entire year.
and beyond.  Amen
